Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral- Cluj-Napoca

The Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral  from Cluj was built between 1923-1933, from the ideea and contribution of Bishop Nicolae Ivan (1855-1936). This is one of the main religious buildings in Cluj-Napoca and also the first vertical church in the heart of the big unified romanian city.

Bishop Nicolae Ivan after he reunited, in 1919, the Transylvanian Counsel where he requested financial aid for building the church, in 1920 he manages to obtain the park in front of the National Theatre where the Cathedral is actually built. After receiving the funds he organized a contest for the local architect wich was won by George Cristinel and Constantin Pomponiu.
